Unsponsored What A Room Furniture Couch Review

My partner and I just moved into our new place and decided it was time to upgrade from our old Room & Board couch to something more permanent. After weeks of research, reading Reddit threads, review blogs, and comparing foam densities (yes, I went there), we landed on What A Room furniture for our new sectional sofa. We were specifically looking for something U.S.-made, pet-friendly, and fully customizable because our space has some weird layout challenges.

There honestly weren’t that many in-depth third-party reviews for What A Room floating around, so I wanted to share mine in case it helps someone else out there!

  • I bought the Comfy Lounge Chaise Sectional Sofa

  • Fabric: Bella Royal (Performance Velvet, pet/kid-friendly)

  • Chose the Medium Firmness cushion

  • Seat depth of 22" (Overall depth 40")

  • Size: 108" x 70" x 40”

  • Sectional cost: $4,445.00 + $299 white glove delivery

  • Comfy Lounge Chair in Bella Ash with size: 40” x 38”

  • Chair cost: $1499

I ordered swatches online (free) and they came super fast, like within 4 days. The Bella and Dynamite collections had the best combo of texture, durability, and softness. I have two large dogs that shed like crazy and jump on furniture daily, so high rub count and water repellency were a must. Bella ended up being the winner, doesn’t trap hair much and wipes clean easily. It also looked way more elevated in person than I expected, super luxe without being fussy.

One thing I LOVED: you can fully customize seat depth, overall length, leg style, fabric, firmness... even switch arm types. We emailed a few times and one of their designers walked us through sizing and even sent renderings of a custom corner solution we were considering. He actually replied with diagrams and helped us tweak the measurements to fit our room perfectly. Very hands-on, which I didn’t expect. He really helped us feel confident about the layout before pulling the trigger.

The whole build process of our custom sofa and delivery took about 7 weeks, which is honestly way faster than most other custom furniture brands. Delivery was white glove, so they brought it in, set it up, and took all the packaging away. From start to finish, it felt like a boutique-level experience without the pretentiousness. Everything arrived exactly as expected, and the craftsmanship was obvious the second we sat down.

Our first day impression: The What A Room Comfy Lounge sectional sofa looks even better in person. It has a sleek, low-profile look but the seat is super deep, which is what we wanted for movie nights and lounging. Cushions are heavy and feel solid, not overly squishy, but not too firm either. Back cushions are loose but reversible, and the seat cushions zip off for washing. One corner of the bumper cushion had a minor ripple on day one, but I think that’ll settle in over time. We’ve already napped on it, and it passed the Sunday-lounge test with flying colors.

Still loving it. No signs of sagging, and the foam is holding shape perfectly tells you how durable the cushion are. Hair brushes off easily and the fabric hasn’t piled or snagged. My 6’2” brother said it’s the first couch where he doesn’t feel like he’s halfway falling off the front. It’s deep and supportive without feeling like you’re sinking, just super well-balanced.

A couple things to note:

  • The seat depth is deep. If you’re under 5’6” and like to sit upright with feet on the floor, you may want throw pillows behind you.

  • What A Room sofas and sectionals are quite expensive but the high quality stands on its own and well worth it.

  • Frame uses kiln-dried solid wood frame and corner blocking for high build quality.

  • Cushions are 2.5 density high resilient meant to last over 10 years.

  • Cushion comes in 4 firmness options: soft, medium, firm, & plush down-alternative.

  • One leg came with a scuff, but they sent a replacement within a week, no questions asked.

  • Customizable size up to 148” wide, 82” chaise length, & 48” deep (30” seat depth).

What A Room furniture is the real deal if you’re looking for a long-term couch and don’t want to deal with big-box brand terrible customer service and lower quality materials. The fact that it's all made in California with premium 2.5 lb high-density foam (seriously, it’s a tank) gave me peace of mind that it’ll last. The level of customization was next-level, and the design help made the whole process surprisingly smooth. It’s one of the few times I’ve bought something this big online that I felt really nervous about, but somehow was 100% satisfied from start to finish. If you're on the fence, just order the swatches and start the convo, they make the whole custom couch thing way less intimidating, and honestly, kinda fun.
